Celebrating Pride Month at Ashtons: A Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

13 June, 2024

Ashtons is excited to announce our staff have chosen to celebrate Pride Month throughout June 2024. This month is a significant time to recognise and support the LGBTQ+ community, and we have planned a variety of activities.

Pride Month has a rich history in the UK, beginning with the first official UK Gay Pride Rally held in London in 1972, with the first Brighton Pride event taking place the following year.

Over the decades, it has grown in importance and visibility, becoming a crucial time to celebrate diversity, promote inclusion, and raise awareness about the challenges and achievements of the LGBTQ+ community.

How Our Staff are Celebrating Pride Month at Ashtons:

  • “History of Pride” Lunch & Learn Session: We held an informative session on Wednesday 5th June as a learning opportunity, covering the history of Pride and its significance.
  • Supporting ‘MindOut’ Mental Health Charity: Our Team is taking this opportunity to try to make difference, and we are proud to support the ‘MindOut’ Mental Health charity. We will be raising funds through a cake bake sale on Thursday 27th June!
  • Ashtons Book Club: During June, our book club will read “Less” by Andrew Greer, a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel written by an LGBTQ+ author.
  • Pride-Themed Teams Backgrounds: Pride-themed Teams backgrounds will be available for all of our staff to use throughout June.
  • Celebrating Culture: We will be sharing amongst ourselves lists of movies, artists, and books from the LGBTQ+ community to broaden our understanding and appreciation.
  • Pride-Themed Playlists: We are sharing Pride-themed playlists each week to celebrate the vibrant music of the LGBTQ+ community.

Our staff are passionate about working in an inclusive, diverse workplace, where true equal opportunity is not just an ideal but a practice. Pride Month is not just a time for celebration; it’s an opportunity to reflect on the importance of these values in our daily work and interactions.

All of this has driven our team’s desire to celebrate Pride Month and to support our LGBTQ+ colleagues and community.
