Salary: ÂŁ45k – ÂŁ50k PA/ Pro Rata

Purpose of the role:

Managing a busy Distance Selling Pharmacy, taking personal accountability for the accuracy of dispensing and checking of prescriptions in order to meet the highest quality standards and patient care.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • To take personal accountability to ensure the Dispensary operates ethically and in line with company Standard Operating Procedures and meeting regulatory standards
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders as required to ensure the smooth operation of the business, to identify opportunities for support of neighbouring teams where appropriate and to feed into continuous improvement activities
  • To act as the Responsible Pharmacist within the Dispensary (with support from other Pharmacists as required), and keeping accurate logs of the RP duties at all times
  • Coaching the Team Leaders and Dispensing Assistants to enable them to deliver the highest standard of care to patients, across a range of order types including regular NHS cycle prescriptions, named patient orders, TTOs, controlled drugs and Clozapine programmes
  • Be responsible for team rotas to ensure appropriate staff levels are available at all times, and allocate work via  Team Leaders in order to ensure all orders are processed appropriately
  • Maintain accurate records of controlled substances at all times and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure the dispensing robot is operated correctly, appropriately stocked and is effectively utilised
  • To participate in coverage of duties for the Prescription Services Manager as required, for example, clinical screening of prescriptions, prescription processing and labelling
  • To participate in coverage of duties for Visiting Pharmacists as required, supporting clients and patients with clinical queries
  • To be responsible for the maintenance of robust and accurate Standard Operating Procedures, with approval by the Quality team and Chief Pharmacist
  • Follow our company Standard Operating Procedures and observing the GPhC principals and standards, and ensuring effective use of systems and technology

Management Accountabilities:

  • Provide strong leadership, promoting a positive work environment, fostering teamwork and collaboration with all other departments within Ashtons
  • Foster professional development and provide guidance to staff members, facilitating their growth and maximizing their potential
  • Be responsible for managing performance and personal development of direct and indirect reports, including completion of appraisals, service improvement objectives and personal development plans
  • Lead on ensuring all HR policies and procedures are adhered to for all direct and indirect reports, including absence management, sickness, capability and disciplinary policies
  • Oversight of day to day performance of assigned staff to meet assigned Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
  • Act as Escalation point for all assigned Team Leaders and indirect reports, and cascading information as required
  • Be accountable for the thorough investigation and resolution of complaints, errors or processing issues as required
  • To be responsible for the maintenance of robust and accurate Standard Operating Procedures, with approval by the Quality team and Chief Pharmacist
  • Responsible for the implementation of quality control measures to minimize errors and maintain the highest standards of patient safety
  • Stay up to date with relevant regulations, guidelines, and best practices, and ensure adherence to them
  • Collaborate with regulatory bodies during inspections and audits, implementing corrective actions as necessary
  • Adhere to our company and external Health & Safety Standards; including taking reasonable care of your own health and safety and that of colleagues, cooperating with management and following instructions, completing the provided training, and prompt reporting of any hazards, illnesses or injuries
  • Adhere to our company Data Protection procedures; including the completion of annual training, using the provided secure ways to handle and dispose of data, and prompt reporting of any suspected data breaches
  • Help keep the business environment clean and tidy, be responsible for keeping own and surrounding areas clutter free, working within cleaning schedules as required.

 Essential Education, Experience and Skills:

Education

  • MPharm degree or equivalent, and a Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

Experience

  • Minimum one year of experience in leading a Pharmacy dispensing team or service
  • Detailed understanding of the GPhC principals and standards.

Skills

  • Fluent in the English language

  • Calm under pressure
  • Excellent time management and organisation, with an independent work ethic
  • Technically strong, with familiarity with MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
