Senior Clinical Pharmacist (Internal Only) – Remote

Are you an experienced and passionate Clinical Pharmacist looking to advance your career? Ashtons, a trusted provider of pharmacy services since 1989, is seeking a dynamic Senior Clinical Pharmacist to join our dedicated team.

Purpose of the role:

The Senior Clinical Pharmacist will perform a dual role, with some clinical pharmacist responsibilities (as outlined in the Clinical Pharmacist Job Description) and providing managerial support and clinical supervision to their direct reports within the Clinical Pharmacist team.

Directly reporting to the Regional Lead Pharmacist, they will oversee the daily operations, training, and mentorship of Clinical Pharmacists under them. Their responsibilities will include ensuring the pharmacy services meet specified Key Performance Indicators and Service Level Agreements. They will support the Regional Leads to always deliver the service to the highest standard and to devise and execute action plans aimed at meeting and enhancing performance targets and Key Performance Indicators, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Principal Accountabilities:

– Under the guidance of the Regional Leads, develop and implement operational strategies to optimise pharmacy services and enhance efficiency.

– Collaborate with the Regional Lead Pharmacist to ensure the effective allocation of resources and staffing levels to meet service demands.

– Facilitating communication and collaboration between the Dispensary and the Clinical Pharmacist team to develop strategies for minimising the impact of out-of-stock situations on patient care and improving product availability, by providing clinical input on product selection and rationalisation.

– Implement and monitor standard operating procedures to streamline workflows, standardise pharmacist tasks and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

– Coordinate with other departments, such as procurement, finance, and IT, to address operational issues and implement cross-functional initiatives.

– Conduct regular reviews and performance assessments to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.

– Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations and promote a culture of safety within the pharmacy team.

– Respond promptly to operational challenges and emergencies, implementing contingency plans to minimise disruptions to service delivery.

– Provide leadership in implementing new technologies and systems to enhance operational efficiency and service quality.

– Contribute to organising and planning of corporate events such as annual Clinical Conference and training events, including presenting where appropriate.

– Actively participate in strategic planning discussions to align operational objectives with the overall goals of the organisation.

– Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the pharmacy team, encouraging innovation and proactive problem-solving to drive operational excellence.

– Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement policies and procedures that support efficient and effective pharmacy services.

– Support with new site set up to ensure smooth onboarding from both a services and supplies perspective as well as pharmacy provision. Also, assistance will be necessary for the demobilisation process following site closures.

– Support the Regional Leads in managing budgets and financial resources allocated to pharmacy services, ensuring cost-effective practices and optimal resource utilisation.

– Assisting the Regional Leads in transitioning the workforce towards a multi-modal working model across all sectors served by Ashtons’ pharmacy services. This includes, but is not limited to, mental health, palliative care, health and justice, ophthalmic, and surgical sectors.

Leadership Accountabilities:

– Set and maintain the highest standards of compliance and quality assurance within pharmacy services, supporting Lead Pharmacists in ensuring regulatory requirements are met.

– Assist Lead Pharmacists with project work, policy review and updates, and competency frameworks, contributing to the development and implementation of quality assurance measures across pharmacy services.

– Work collaboratively with other Senior Clinical Pharmacists to ensure continuity and consistency in service delivery and professional standards.

– Provide direction and leadership to direct reports, setting clear objectives and priorities aligned with organisational goals.

– Advocate for professional development opportunities for Clinical Pharmacists, supporting their growth and advancement within the pharmacy profession.

– Act as a mentor for new Pharmacists, supporting their onboarding process and providing ongoing training and educational support as needed.

– Contribute to the development of training needs analysis, role development, and competency frameworks for Clinical Pharmacists, ensuring alignment with organisational goals.

– Support the Lead Pharmacists in developing a comprehensive training, coaching, and mentoring agenda for Clinical Pharmacists to ensure continuous professional development and adherence to best practices.

– Monitor the completion of mandatory training for Clinical Pharmacists.

– Provide clinical supervision and guidance to Clinical Pharmacists, ensuring adherence to regulatory compliance and best practices in medicines management.

– Provide oversight of day-to-day performance and allocation of work to Clinical Pharmacists, ensuring adherence to quality standards and efficient service delivery.

– Serve as the escalation point for daily issues from Clinical Pharmacists, providing guidance, support, and resolution as necessary.

– Manage the allocation of workload for Clinical Pharmacists, including holiday approvals to maintain operational efficiency.

– Foster teamwork and collaboration among Clinical Pharmacists, promoting a positive work culture and environment conducive to professional growth.

– Lead the appraisal process for Clinical Pharmacists, facilitating constructive feedback, setting development goals, and identifying training needs.

– Collaborate with the People Team to conduct performance management activities, including probation reviews, performance reviews and goal setting, in alignment with organisational objectives.

– Follow formal processes for managing sickness, capability, and disciplinary issues among Clinical Pharmacists, supported by the People Team and Regional Lead Pharmacists.

– Assist in recruitment and selection processes for Clinical Pharmacists, contributing to the identification and selection of qualified candidates who align with organisational values and objectives.

– Actively engage in personal and professional development activities, including attending relevant training courses and obtaining certifications to enhance clinical skills and expertise.

Essential Skills:

· Pharmacist, registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and to comply with the code of conduct

· Relevant post-graduate study (post graduate diploma/certificate or equivalent)

· 3 years clinical experience and proficiency in pharmaceutical care.

· Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate multidisciplinary teams.

· Strong understanding of quality assurance, risk management, and clinical governance principles.

· Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.

· Keep abreast of policy and professional development within your area of professional expertise.

· To manage own time effectively, prioritising workload to meet objectives within agreed timescales.

Desirable Skills:

· Experience in a managerial role within a pharmacy setting.

· Mental health and Palliative care experience.
