A key part of a paperless system in any healthcare facility
The government has current targets in place for all healthcare facilities to work towards becoming paperless. This will include patient records, pharmacy reports, prescription charts and ordering.
A key aspect of developing a paperless system in any healthcare facility is the introduction of an electronic prescribing and medicines administration (ePMA) system.
Ashtons e-Works replaces paper medication records, such as prescription charts, and is transformational in improving the safe prescribing and administration of medication.
Since its launch, our Ashtons e-Works ePMA system has been proven to reduce prescribing errors by up to 88% and medicines administration errors by up to 94%.
Prescribing in e-Works is intuitive and flexible, allowing prescribers to easily create complex patient regimes, including variable dose titrations or a syringe driver with multiple medications.
All administration outcomes can be recorded. For non-administration there is a simple selection to input the result and the nurse has the choice of whether to reattempt the administration later. Non-administrations for patients on leave are automatically managed by the system.
The pharmacist tools provide an overview of the prescriptions that have been completed, allowing for immediate review and the opportunity to provide feedback. This is accompanied by a suite of reports to monitor failed administrations, number of PRNs being administered, use of specific medications and more.

Ashtons Live View has helped to transform pharmacy reporting
Making medicines management more efficient and dramatically reducing errors.
Live View was inspired by customer feedback and developed in-house as a better way to manage medication information and deliver improved patient care.
The system allows information from visiting specialist clinical pharmacists to be made immediately available online to other relevant hospital staff.
It also allows senior clinicians and managers to monitor medicines management in their hospital 24 hours a day from anywhere in the world and take appropriate action.
Improve efficiency by analysing trends over time, helping to identify early warning of issues. Report on common problems, training issues and the most frequent errors.
Display a full history of the pharmacist’s visits with their findings, plus a summary of staff actions and responses. Establish evidence of improvements by generating trends and comparisons.
Ashtons Live View is more than a pharmacy reporting system. It has become a multi-functional online resource for medicines management, unique in the UK. Our homepage gives easy access to a vast range of clinical information and guideline libraries.

Business intelligence
Our Business Intelligence reports provide a month-by-month spending analysis, including product type, and ranked details of purchases. They are designed to assist cost control, trend analysis and to help enhance your strategic planning.
For larger healthcare groups, we can also provide comprehensive electronic reports, providing financial data and details of performance against agreed KPIs.
These reports give you the ability to drill down into your data, making it easier than ever to monitor trends, expenditure and sales.
Clinically, the medication order data can be utilised for medicines optimisation and also for compliance with formulary.
By providing clear transparency of spending, you will be able to easily identify cost spikes or areas of potential saving.
Our data will highlight clear trends in ordering across wards and facilities, helping to identify potential training requirements or issues of concern.
By fully understanding the medication used in your facility, you will be able to better analyse if your patients are receiving the right medication at the right time.
