We always recommend the use of stock medication, wherever possible, as compared to named patient supplies, stock will help you reduce waste, cost and storage space.
It is a legal requirement for any pharmacy provider of stock medication to hold an MHRA Wholesale Dealer’s Licence. We hold this licence, as well as a separate Home Office licence allowing us to supply controlled drugs as stock.
By using stock medication, you are able to manage your stock more efficiently, enabling you to share packs of medication between patients, instead of needing a separate pack for each patient on the ward.
When using named patient medication, any change to dose or medication automatically creates waste and increases costs. Use of stock medication eliminates this unnecessary waste and helps you manage your medication spend more efficiently.
If you have stock available on the ward, your staff can easily manage any change in medication or dosage for your patients, without the delay of having order in a new named patient prescription.
When stock medication cannot be used, we can also supply named patient medication, which is individually dispensed and labelled with the patient’s name.
We can supply “To Take Out” (TTO) medication, prescribed for patients discharged or on planned leave.
We also supply medication resource packs to cover unplanned leave or emergency discharge. This service is provided in accordance with NMC guidelines and does not replace TTO medication for planned leave.
We give up-to-date advice and information on specialist drugs that complies with CQC, NICE and Resuscitation Council guidelines.
We will help you manage your stock of emergency drugs, offer training and guidance in managing controlled drugs, and are experts in helping clients to develop and authorise Patient Group Directions (PGDs) in their practice.
