Government announces future investigation to examine mental health inpatient settings

The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care announced in June 2023 plans for the future Health Services Safety Investigations Body (HSSIB) (to be established 1 October 2023) to carry out a series of investigations focused on mental health inpatient settings. Investigations will centre around how healthcare providers can learn from deaths in their care, how to improve young people’s care, patients being treated far from home and developing a safe, therapeutic staffing model for all mental health inpatient services.
